Don't Hire a Lawyer if You Can't Shake His Hand
Obtaining Social Security Disability benefits can be a long and frustrating process. When you hire a lawyer to represent you, it's important to know that he will be there every step of the way and provide you with personal service.
Unfortunately, not all law firms provide personal service. Many firms that practice in the area of Social Security Disability law are national law firms that handle thousands of cases at a time in courts all over the country. These firms are about volume, not personal service. The person you talk to over the phone may not be the lawyer who ends up handling your case. That's why I always tell people that you should never hire a lawyer if you can't shake his or her hand.
I'm David Kapor, an SSD lawyer based in Cincinnati. When you hire me, you get me — a lawyer with more than 25 years of experience. You won't get a paralegal or a first-year lawyer who is learning on the job.
An Attorney Who Works for You
When you hire me as your lawyer, I work for you. It's not the other way around. I make it a point to return phone calls because when you call with a question about your case, I know it's not a social call. You need to be able to talk to the lawyer who is handling your case. I am also available to meet you in person.
To me, the practice of law is about personal relationships. As a local attorney, I have good working relationships with the Social Security administrative personnel and administrative law judges who may eventually review your case. I also know treatment facilities and local physicians who can provide medical documentation to help you build the strongest possible disability case.
People in the Greater Cincinnati area are very neighborhood-oriented. For this reason, I have offices not only in Cincinnati but also in Fairfield, College Hill, Blue Ash and Tri-County. I represent disabled workers in Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana.
The majority of the cases I handle are referred to me from past clients, physicians, social service agencies, union members, hospitals and other lawyers.
